Sorry I have been so quiet, but it is the start of gardening season so I am BUSY!!
Anyway I have been doing my workouts (2 tornado abs a week, 1 8-pack, and Chiseled with Just Dance 3 times a week for cardio). I've been making some awesome progress and am excited to show you. I will be weighing in this weekend I promise!
Just kidding, kind of. I've been quiet lately because I came down with a horrible case of food poisoning Saturday Night/Sunday Morning. I spent all day Sunday with gut wrenching pain and not being able to keep any food down. One bout was so bad I passed out from the pain, so I went into the walk-in clinic who gave me hydrocodone for pain and Zofran for nausea. Well, neither worked and by 8:00 pm that night I started running a fever of 101F and couldn't even keep water down, so I shuffled off to the emergency room with my husband.
2 bags of IVs and a bunch a morphine later and I was able to make it through the night. I was given the OK to take a combination of Hydrocodone, Naproxen, and Zofran. The Zofran did zip, so I just dealt with the nausea. The only thing I can keep down is chicken broth, ice cream, jello, and diluted gatorade, so that has been my diet the last few days. I did try some breadsticks yesterday, but it cause such severe stomach cramping I won't be trying that again for awhile yet.
The nausea is gone for the most part and I am keeping liquids down without any pain finally. Solid foods still cause quite a bit of pain. I take just the Naproxen during the day so I can work without a fuzzy brain and then start the hydrocodone when I get home. My doctor said to skip the exercise until I am eating solid foods again without any pain (hopefully by this weekend).
On top of all this my allergies are acting up, but I haven't been able to take my allergy medication because it would make me so nauseous, so I have a runny nose, watery eyes, and junked up lungs. I'm going to take a Clariton today though since the nausea seems to be under control.
All in all, I'm pretty miserable, but at least am able to work. Exercise plans will be on hold until I get this under control. Oh and I am NEVER eating at that new restaurant ever again! I can't be 100% sure they gave it to me, but I bit into my seafood medley dish and the centers of the fish were still cold/slimy. I lost my appetite, but that is the only thing I can think of that would give me food poisoning. I ate at home the other meals and always measure my meat temperatures with a cooking thermometer before eating them.
Last Tuesday I started feeling a little ill, but I still worked out and ate healthy. By Thursday I had a full blown case of strep throat, on heavy antibiotics, and bed ridden for three days. On Sunday I was able to get up and move around, but had such a bad cough walking around for even ten minutes was a chore. On Monday I stayed up and moving all day to prepare for going back to work, but I developed a stuffy nose and still have the cough that nothing seems to be helping which means last night I got no sleep since none of the OTC medicine I took did anything. I still made it into work today, so that is a plus.
During all this all I could do is eat and all my husband prepared/brought for me was junk food so my weight is back to where it was at the beginning of January which makes me even more frustrated then I was last week. It is tough to diet in a household where no one else is dieting or even very supportive of the idea.
Anyway, I'm still pretty crummy today, but I'm going to try some light cardio because I'm tired of doing nothing. My new diet policy is nothing processed. If it isn't a lean meat, vegetable, fruit, bean/legume or healthy grain (like quinoa) then it isn't going into my body. Only water and herbal tea from this point forward as far as drinks go.
On a positive note...gardening season is almost here!! Since we are landscaping our yard this summer I am going to container grow all my vegetables and herbs this year. My big project for March is making 12 self-watering planters that function just like EarthBoxes, but without the cost. Last year was my first attempt at a vegetable garden and the only things that grew well were tomatoes, potatoes, and zucchini. Watering was my biggest challenge, so these planters should be perfect. This year my vegetable/herb garden plan is standard tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, corn, spinach, acorn squash, bell peppers, chard, strawberries, carrots, radishes, onions, beans, artichokes, basil, oregano, thyme, cilantro, parsley, rosemary, lemongrass, mint, and mustard. Most the herbs I grow inside and use fresh, but I want large quantities this year to dry for the winter. I love gardening and am pretty excited about the plan this year. Who knows, if I get what I want out of the containers this year I might add a few more for next year and just continue using them. Plus, not having to weed will be awesome!
